Salisbury Cathedral

6 The Close, Salisbury, Wiltshire SP1 2EJ

Salisbury Cathedral is a truly wonderful historic building situated in the centre of Salisbury and is visited by over 500,000 people every year. A view of the Cathedral can be seen from the bed and breakfast with it being only a few minutes walk away. The Cathedral and grounds act as an impressive stage for some major events, concerts and exhibitions as well as offering a place for prayer and reflection.

The Cathedral is open to all and offers guides and tours throughout the year including the guided tower tour where visitors get to climb the 332 steps to the base of Britain’s tallest spire which is an astonishing 225ft above ground level.

Formally known as the Cathedral Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary, is an Anglican cathedral and one of the leading examples of Early English architecture.[1] The main body of the cathedral was completed in only 38 years, from 1220 to 1258.

The cathedral has the tallest church spire in the United Kingdom. Visitors can take the “Tower Tour” where the interior of the hollow spire, with its ancient wood scaffolding, can be viewed. The cathedral also has the largest cloister and the largest cathedral closein Britain.[1] It contains the world’s oldest working clock (from AD 1386) and has the best surviving of the four original copies of Magna Carta.[1]

Gates to the Cathedral are situated at the end of the road just a few minutes walk from St Anns House.
